Materials & compliance
Sourcing, certifications, and production standards behind every Canwell crate.
-
Canwell crates are built in Canada. Wood, labour, and manufacturing are Canadian. Through our manufacturing partners, we are connected with the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME), a national association advocating for Canadian industry.
-
Our wood supplier holds FSC certification (FSC-C109634), ensuring materials come from responsibly managed forests. FSC certification covers environmental, social, and economic forest management standards set by the Forest Stewardship Council.
-
All export crates are built from ISPM-15 heat-treated wood, compliant with the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures governing wood packaging material in international trade.
-
Crate markings and colour coding use AP-certified non-toxic paints, certified by the Art & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) to meet ASTM D-4236 standards. Safe for workers and compliant with environmental requirements.
-
Our primary wood supplier operates within a Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) certified supply chain, supporting secure and responsible cross-border trade between Canada and the United States.
-
In collaboration with our suppliers, we support the Ontario Living Wage Network by sourcing from businesses that pay employees a fair, livable wage.
